I’ve never heard of using vicks although it would probably make your toes feel good! Try getting a bottle of Tea Tree Oil from Wal-mart or any drugstore. It is very inexpensive and will last you a long time. Using a clean q-tip apply the tea tree oil to affected areas 2-3 times a day. A little goes a long way. Let it air dry before putting on socks or shoes. You will need to do this for at least 30 days or longer. Anytime you treat a fungal infection it can take 1-3 months to cure. Just be patient.

This is a remedy used by Dr.s but can be bought through your Pharmacy…soak in 50% Formaldehyde 50% water mixture for 20 minutes (this is also used to rid those terribly STINKY feet) and after use Tea Tree Oil 2x daily on toe tips..nails and skin around the nails!! Good luck to you..this works great!!

I don’t want to see a doctor for this because i hear the treatment really messes with the liver (it doesn’t need any thing else kickin at it). I just wanted to see if there are any home remedies.

Take tea tree oil and menthol oil in a hot foot bath in a bowl. About 10 drops of each to about 3/4 gallon hot/warm water. soak your feet twice a day. for 2 weeks. this will kill the fungis but it will take a while for the damage that has been done to grow out. While doing this mix a sulotion of tea tree and menthol in a spray bottle and spray your shoes ever time you take them off. try going with out shoes as much as you can. Fungi love warm moist places like your shoes.

I have gone to the doctor and taken the Lamisil that he prescribed but it has not helped was wondering if any one might have any home remedies that might help.

Well, go back to him. There are many other medications.May require a prescription. See a Podiatrist-they specialize in the foot. Oh, by the way, they go to college for ten years to become one.

Try some FungiCure to get rid of the fungus. If that doesn’t work, you will need to go see your doctor to get a prescription. Then use something like Diamond strenght clear nail polish to help them grow and stay strong.

I am in desperate need of some advice. Just recently I noticed that my index finger is kinda yellow and I has small little bumps on the right side of the nail. I don’t know how to treat it because I heard that over the counter medicine was bad for you liver but also that creams and stuff doesnt work either. Please tell me what worked and how you got it.

Onychomycosis is fungal infection of the nail plate, nail bed, or both.

Since last year the side of my two big toenails (the skin part) have been a little red, lumpy, and sooo painful!
and just now i was on my bed and i realized this gooey green stuff has come out of one of my toenails! what is this?
is it fungus?
& How much does it cost to get treatment for this?
and i take a shower day and night!

Sounds like an infection. Even if it isn’t you can go to your doctor and have them look it over and tell you. If you have a foot fungus there are over the counter treatments and they range in price and effectiveness. My husband had a prescription treatment that insurance refused to cover. I wrote them a letter explaining it was a medical condition and they decided to cover it!? Either way I think it’s treatable but you should have it checked out! I am no medical expert but also I’ve heard of ingrown nails causing a lot of pain etc.

Wear well-ventilated shoes
Take off your socks and go barefoot as often as you can. The fungus thrives in warm, moist, dark environments
Wash your feet daily
Keep your feet and toenails clean; use a nailbrush to scrub away dead fungus, dirt and nail tissue, especially under the toenails
Wash and dry your feet very well. When drying, try to wipe and brush your feet with vigor to help improve circulation and remove dead skin
Sprinkle anti-bacterial powder into your shoes
Make sure your socks and shoes are not too tight
Stay away from buying shoes made from synthetic materials
Alternate your shoes each time you wear them
Stay away from using heavy toenail polish
Stay away from using heavy toenail polish
Try to keep your toenails as short as possible (and do not share your nail clippers)
Wear rubber shoes, flip flops or water shoes in communal bathrooms
Throw away your old shoes to avoid reinfection
Soak your foot in warm lapacha tea (this can be bought at the health food store)
Do not give up! Do not forget a treatment and persist for around seven months.
