Would you not date someone (such as me who is 16) just because they have a black toenail from an infection.?

So I think that I wont be able to get any guys because I think that they wont like me or will be disgusted by my black toenail. I have a bacterial/fungal infection and I am currently getting rid of it. My doctor tells my that it will never heal normally, but i will forever have an airpocket underneath my big toenail. Please respond! Would you not like me or date me just because of this?

I mean, it’s your foot. It would be another thing if it were on your face (don’t get me wrong, I would still give you a chance, but it would just be more visible and stuff and off-putting), but it’s on your foot which is covered most of the time! I mean, wear socks/shoes. Big deal. And yeah, I would give you a chance even if I knew. I have a scar in the middle of my chest that will never heal, and it’s big an ugly, too, so I guess we’d have that in common x3

Fungal nail infections?

It’s really embaressing, I think I have a fungal nail infection. It’s on my fingernails, and it’s spread to all on both hands except the little fingers. It’s been like it for about 4 years now, and I went to my GP a few years ago, and asked about it, and they sent off an ‘extract’ for examining, but the results showed nothing was wrong with them. But I know I definitely have one! I can’t use curanail because that is for two or less nails. What can I use/What should I do?

I’m 15 years old, if that helps.
Also, what medication or prescription should I use?

Thank you!
Thank you ‘Here, there and everywhere’, I will tell my mum to book an appointment.

I’ve had a fungal nail infection on a few of my toenails for several years. I also went to the doctor about it and was sent away – nothing wrong with me supposedly…

I suggest that you go back to your doctor, not to say that you are not happy with the previous diagnosis, but to insist that you _do_ have a fungal nail infection and that you _do_ want it sorted out.

The ‘cure’ is usually something like a six to twelve month course of antibiotics. (The antibiotics have to be taken for as long as it takes for the infected nail to grow out.)

If you manage to read up about exactly what type of infection you have, then that might help sway your case that something is wrong…rather than you ‘just having something that the doctor hasn’t seen before’.

Has anyone ever had a fungal infection in the toe/finger nail? If so, what did you use to treat it?

I got a pedicure and discovered a fungus. I lost th big toenail..Trying to treat it with over the couner aids..

A good treatment is undiluted hydrogen peroxide. Yep it will burn as hell but it works really well. Just get a orange stick ( you know the instrument used in manicures and pedicures) wrap the tip with a bit of cotton and dip into the hydrogen peroxide then gently clean out the nail area. Repeat at least twice a day or after each shower. It should bring your nail back to normal.

Ingrown toenail infection and surgery?

So I have an ingrown toenail, according to my doctor. I’d already had the ingrown for about a week before I saw my doctor, and I think it’s infected. (I’ve been putting over-the-counter antibacterial cream on the toe in question, and in the four days I’ve been doing it the redness and pain have gone down considerably, though there’s still a small lump of flesh over the ingrown on the base of my toe.) He referred me to a podiatrist for surgery (didn’t say what kind), but I can’t get an appointment for at least nine days. I have a few questions about my toe.

I seem to have come down with a bit of a cold–no fever, but sinus pressure and a sore throat. (It developed in the last day and a half; I didn’t have it when I went to the doctor.) Perhaps I’m being a bit paranoid here, but the backs of my calves have been hurting a bit too, as if pulled. Could these things be related to my infected toenail– could the infection have spread to the rest of me? Or is it just a few coincidental factors?

Also, before my surgery, I have to travel for two days, and I’ll be doing a lot of walking. Will this be especially harmful to my toe, and will it cause me much pain? (It doesn’t hurt when I walk now, but then again, I haven’t been on my feet much lately.)

Thanks for answering. I’ll add more info or even a pic if it’s needed.
Been looking around the Internet– I can’t get gangrene in nine days, can I? Especially if I’m not even sure if it’s infected? (By the way, how can you tell if it’s infected?)

I believe all of your signs and symptoms are coincidental. Being a retired nurse I read through your questions several times and here is my recommendation. For your toenail, soak in really warm water with epsom salt or table salt for 10 minutes. Let it air dry and apply ‘triple ointment’ (can buy off the shelf if its available where you live). Put a large band-aid on it and wear loose socks and shoes. Do not use Neosporin. When you go to the foot doctor, he/she will numb your toe at the base and then cut the nail out. Yes you’ll be awake and the only part that hurts is the numbing. The doctor will put you on an oral antibiotic and will give you a topical antibiotic along with instructions for care.
Sorry to hear about your cold. Treat the symptoms like taking tylenol and Benedryl. Gargle with salt water and there are products on the market that you can spray your throat on the inside to relieve the pain.
The back of your calves I think are from not walking as much as you normally do because it hurts your toe when you bare weight on it. Just to cover another reason they are hurting I want you to sit down on a chair or floor with your feet up against the wall. Push on the wall with the ball part of your foot and toes to feel if the leg pain goes way up. If it does cause a lot of pain or if the painful areas are red and warm go to a doctor asap.
Follow my suggestions and it will reduce the risk of getting gangrene. If the toe even has a pink color around the nail then it is infected.
As for your two day trip, pad and wrap the toe well and wear loose socks and shoes. Good luck guy….hope this helps you.

Ingrown toenail + Infection?

My toenail was ingrown. It has been ingrown 4 times before, and I’ve had many surgeries on it, including an ablation. I’ve also changed my shoe size multiple times + I cut my toenails straight across.

This time it was really bugging me, so I did some "bathroom surgery" on it with toenail scissors. I held the scissors over a lighter flame for 2 minutes and let it cool naturally before doing it. I got the nail out, and there is no pain anymore, but it looks a little infected. Will it go away naturally or do I need to get antibiotics? How can I tell if it is getting worse and when should I be worried about the infection spreading?

Well, try squeezing the heck out of it and put perioxide or rubbing alcohol on it. Keep putting it on for a couple days. If it does not get better in a couple days, you will need a perscription cream.

I find the only way is doing bathroom surgery before it gets bad. When it starts bugging you a bit, start the surgery LOL.

p.s. No idea what cutting straight accross is supposed to do. Not sure why they say that. Anyone I know this has not helped one bit!!
The ingrown area is at the side of the toe. I find keeping the toenail as short as possbile in that area helps.

how to get rid of fungal nail infections?

Have just had a baby (2 months ago) and during pregnancy got a very bad case of athletes foot which spred to big toe nail. Due to being pregnant was unable to use many treatments so subsequently it has gotten worse. I believe there are lots of treatments both medical and homeopathic. Just wondered how succesful they are and which ones are best. x

Tea tree oil worked a treat for me. I just rubbed a little bit on every day after I got out the shower.

ingrown toenail infection?

I have a ingrown toenail infection, and I tried to treat this at home with a dr scholls ingrown toenail gel. I have had this infection before but it was on the other side of the toe, and i used the gel and it went away this infection didn’t respond in any way toward the infection, so i decide to go to the doctor a week ago, and they prescribe me mupriocin and cephalexin 500 mg. The infection did start shrinking down, and the there is basicly no pain but the infectious lump is still there, and stopped shrinking. My infection is not growing but at the same time its not shrinking anymore , and i have some Chephalexin still left. The doctor recommended that if the med dont work that i should go to a podiatrist, and they will proably remove the nail bed. What should i do?

Before I go into detail, I have to make something clear. YOU MUST FINISH THOSE ANTIBIOTICS! Okay? Good. You do that.
Now, I guess your doctor is waiting for the infection to disappear before removing the ingrowing part of the toenail. It’s probably best to explain the situation to him/her the next time you see them. If there is still some infection lurking around, you’ll get another prescription for the antibiotics, and maybe at a higher dosage. Your doctor (or podiatrist) won’t operate if there’s any infection. So, in answer to your question (finally), see whoever you need to see to get it sorted. Good luck, whatever happens. :)

Toenail fungal infection (onycomychosis) is hard to cure. Is CANESORAL used for THRUSH effective/suitable?

This condition is under the toenail difficult to treat with external application of antifungal products.

I don’t know about thrush meds but I hear you can cure it by soaking a paper towel in raw apple cider vinegar and wrapping it around you toe at night or when your at home.

I cured my atheletes foot by doing the same thing but to my whole foot and putting a plastic freezer bag over it at night to keep it from drying out. Cured it after a few days.

My fungal infection is beneath my big toe nail and is possibly spreading to other toes. Can I dab bleach on?

I have had this problem for some time and tried the usual medications (incl. tablets for one year!) but no solution. Surely dilued bleach cannot be harmful as thats all they put in swimming pools!!

Bleach will not kill the fungus. You could use Vicks Vaporub on the toenail……..or tea tree oil. However, if the infection is deep under the toenail you may eventually have to get a foot doctor to look at it. Try the Vicks Vaporub, massaging it into and around the toenail, at least once a day, and see what happens.
